Tyler's story
Tyler was born with congenital heart disease and has faced many challenges throughout his life. He underwent five heart surgeries and numerous hospital stays and treatments before deciding to discontinue further medical procedures in 2022.
When I met Tyler, I asked about his dream. He responded immediately, saying, “I want to go back to the beach where I had so much fun as a teenager.” He shared that he wanted to go fishing, ride in a boat, see dolphins, and relax. During our conversation, he also mentioned that he was a big WWE fan and admired Kane, a former WWE Champion who is now the Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee.
YOLO was able to arrange a trip to Gulf Shores, Alabama, for Tyler, his mom, sister, and aunt. During the trip, Tyler experienced everything he had hoped for and even had the opportunity to serve as “Captain” during a dolphin cruise.
As a special addition to his experience, we contacted the Mayor’s Office, and Mayor Kane invited Tyler and his mother for a visit. He took the time to show them his wall of fame featuring championship belts, photos, and memorabilia. He also gave Tyler an autographed book and additional signed items. Meeting the mayor was a highlight for Tyler and a meaningful completion to his dream experience.
